MOOI! MOOI! MOOI! Mannen bedankt voor deze geweldige 6 dagen sport!

Verslag Interland
apeldoorn track race
Kevin Stewart | Tuesday 19th May, 2009
Kevin Stewart
Hi everyone, last weekend i was in Apeldoorn, Holland for an international track race. This was to be my first time racing abroad so i was very excited, and i was feeling good so was really looking forward to getting some racing done.
The weekend started off well with an adventure in Amsterdam airport. One tip though, if you are at schipol airport, don't go to the jubbly juice bar!! 4 euros for a glass of orange juice!!
After a while my coach picked me up and we headed to the hotel "the golden tulip." It was a really nice place and i had a room to myself which was fine.
The next morning we had the team sprint and then the keirin to race.
I was looking forward to the team sprint as it is one of my favourite events.
I was off man 1, and my team-mates Kian Emadi and Luc Jones were off man 2 and man 3. It was a straight final so we only had one chance. I hit it as hard as i could and did a pb by a good chunkJ was really pleased with it, and to top it off we won! With the dutch in second and Czechs in 3rd. As it was one of the endurance girls 18th birthday, Sarah, i decided to give my flowers to her. Awwww, how cute. Next up was the keirin, in my heat i lead it out from the front and won it quite comfortably. Both Kian and Luc qualified too so we were all in the final! I decided to go for the same tactic and take it from the front, unfortunately i feel asleep as the bike was pulling off and everyone came over the top of me. Tow laps to go and i was at the back with everyone nearly going flat out! I did the seated drive of my life to come over everyone but couldn't quite get fully over the dutch guy at the front and he came back through under me to take the win on the line. With me second, Kian third and Luc fourth. I was gutted! I would have to redeem myelf tomorrow! That night spirits were high and we had to cake for Sarah's birthday, unbeknown to the coaches! Highlight of the weekend was Luc and how he dried his skinsuit. We all had to wash our skinsuits that night so Luc hung his skinsuit out the window to dry, but it rained all night! So he had to race in jersey and shorts the following day! Our coach, Jon was not best pleased! Sunday and we had the sprint compettion, it didn't start of well for me in the 200m time trial qualifying. I qualified second behind Kian, and didn't do a pb, i think the gear was too big and mucked up my line coming into it. I put it behind me though and went out and won my quarter finals against a dutch guy. Kian won his as well. Luc didn't fair too well and lost his, he then came second in the minor final. Next was the semis, and was best out of 3. I was up against another dutch guy and won 2-0. Kian also won 2-1. So it was me and Kian in the final! I had to get those flowers! Luckily i prevailed 2-0, beating Kian from the back in the first race, and leading out the second race! I went home happy. But i nearly didnt! The day went on longer than we all expected so i was late fro my flight! I just made the check-in time and quickly glancing at my ticket i read gate 60, instead of gate 06!! So i was sitting in gate 60 thinking i'd missed my plane, when a member of staff came running up to me telling me my plane was about to leave! A flat-out sprint and i made it just in time!!

So all in all, a good weekend, some highs. Some lows, some near misses, and some flowers.
The final beaten on the line
Thanks for reading.
